Progress on the yarnbomb for the Rainbow tree has stuttered to a stop as I prepare to leave for Queensland to prepare for our wedding. There shall be a flurry of stitching after the big day and everything returns to semi-normal :) This photo gives you an idea of my pattern. I am currently writing this it down to share (with the help of some friends). It will be available for all crocheters to play with. It will not have the instructions for covering a tree (!), but can be used for a blanket or cushion. See you on the other side of the wedding day, Queen Babs <3

Morning everyone! Two of the three tree bases in the NCIE yarnbomb are finished! The last one has begun. This is quite a big job when you realise they are approximately 50cm wide and 180cm long or more! All knitted or crocheted by hand... The Rainbow tree, pictured left, is double crochet using 2 strands of 8 ply with a 4.5mm hook so it is thick and colourful. Rows of contrasting bobbles poke out in a pleasingly lumpy-bumpy way. Feeling like the slow but steady turtle eating up the centimetres stitch by stitch... Find colour in your life today! Queen Babs :) It's all systems go on the NCIE yarnbomb this week. Lots of lovely yarn was bought to help out Yarnbombers United and for the workshops involving 2 dozen local kids. Our mailman has also been kept busy (I'm sure he wonders what all the parcels are) delivering yarnbombs, tree wraps, leaves, mandalas and pom-poms. While many of us are beavering away feverishly on this project I introduced the idea of another project: 17 bike racks at Redfern train station. I had a colour idea in mind and our Yarnbombers United team lept at the chance to play. They really are amazing and talented people. A rough count of naked street sign poles along the Cycleway on George Street, Redfern between Cleveland and Phillip Streets showed 8 are completed...so only 60 to go! :D This is a long term project. I'm always thrilled with the sharing and support of crafty people and enthusiasts. May it continue to grow! Have a great day, Queen Babs |
